Trump claims that the US will "do something on Greenland," citing the possibility of China and Russia seizing control.
New DelhiReiterating his threats against Greenland, US President Donald Trump declared that the US would take action "whether they like it or not."
During his meeting with the top oil and gas executives at the White House, he made this statement during a media briefing. Trump defended his remarks by claiming that China or Russia would annex Greenland if they did nothing. "Whether they like it or not, we are going to take action on Greenland because if we don't, China or Russia will annex it and we won't have them as neighbors. When asked about Greenland, Trump responded, "I would like to make a deal the easy way, but if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way."
In reference to Denmark, Trump stated that the fact that a boat landed there 500 years ago "doesn't mean they own the land."
"I also like Denmark, by the way. They've been really kind to me. Although I'm a huge fan, they do not own the land just because a boat landed there 500 years ago.
"Many boats went there as well. However, if you look at the outside of Greenland right now, you can see Russian destroyers, Chinese destroyers, and larger Russian submarines everywhere. This is why we need that. Greenland will not be occupied by China or Russia, and if we don't, they will. "We'll take action with Greenland, either in a pleasant or challenging manner," he declared.
Trump responded that one defends ownership rather than leases when asked why it was crucial to "own" Greenland given the US's potential military presence. "We protect it when we own it. Leases are not defended in the same manner. You must take responsibility for it. Ownership is a requirement for nations, and ownership is defended. Leases are not defended by you. China or Russia will do it if we don't. That won't occur. NATO needs to be aware of that. I support NATO wholeheartedly. I kept it. If it weren't for me, NATO would not be there."
Amid protests, Trump intensifies his attacks on Iran.Trump, meanwhile, has intensified his threats to strike Iran if "they (government of Iran) start killing people as they have in the past." Inflation has caused widespread protests in Iran, where at least 62 people are said to have died. "Iran is deeply troubled. Certain cities are being overrun by people that no one could have predicted. We are keeping a close eye on the situation. We will intervene if the Iranian government continues to kill people as it has in the past. We're going to hit them hard where it hurts. In certain instances, President Obama completely gave in. Iran mistreated its citizens, and now they are being compensated. We are keeping a close eye on it.
