Officials confirmed Tuesday that another suspect has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell in relation to the shooting incident at the filmmaker's home. Even though the primary shooter is still at large, the arrest represents a new development in the case.

The Mumbai Crime Branch claims that by providing the firearm used in the shooting at Rohit Shetty's residence, the accused was a major contributor to the incident. The arrest, according to officials, was made as part of the ongoing investigation into the attack's larger conspiracy.

In the Rohit Shetty firing case, a weapon supplier was detained and will appear in court.

"The Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell has arrested Asaram Fasle alias Babu in connection with the firing incident at Bollywood director Rohit Shetty's residence," the Mumbai Crime Branch told ANI in a statement. He was in charge of providing the weapon that was fired.

Later today, the accused will be brought before Mumbai's Esplanade Court by the Crime Branch team. Four other people had already been detained in connection with the case prior to this arrest, according to officials, and their police custody is scheduled to expire today.

Additional information regarding the shooting case of Rohit Shetty

The sequence of events leading up to the firing has been pieced together by investigators. Mumbai Police identified a Pune man as the owner of the scooter used in the incident on February 3. According to police sources, the man allegedly sold the scooter to one of the arrested accused, Aditya Gayaki, for Rs 30,000 a few days prior. At the time of the transaction, he allegedly obtained Gayaki's signature on a plain piece of paper.

The police claim that Gayaki and another suspect, Samarth Pomaji, later abandoned the scooter at a prearranged spot in the Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai. Gangster Shubham Lonkar allegedly gave the two instructions. According to sources, during the time between buying the car and shipping it to Mumbai, the accused did not know who the shooter was.

According to additional police sources, Lonkar gave the shooter instructions to retrieve the scooter from the assigned location and fire. They went on to say that a similar pattern of using several small groups to carry out a single crime had also been seen in previous crimes.

The individual who allegedly opened fire at Rohit Shetty's home is still at large. According to officials, more research is being done.
