"Uss raat woh ghar nahi pohonchi": In the Assi trailer, Taapsee Pannu battles in court against injustice
Delhi, New Delhi:The makers of Taapsee Pannu's next movie, Assi, unveiled the trailer on Tuesday. The video provides an early look at the legal drama in which Taapsee handles rape cases while waging a legal war inside the courtroom.
The movie, which Taapsee Pannu and director Anubhav Sinha are working on for the third time after Mulk in 2018 and Thappad in 2020, is scheduled for release on February 20.
The trailer for Taapsee Pannu's Assi is out.
Taapsee Pannu plays a lawyer in Assi who is battling for justice on behalf of a victim of gang rape. The disturbing reality of crimes against women in India is illuminated by the film. In the video, a broken Taapsee informs the judge about a specific rape case and notes that 80 more cases of this kind were reported in a single day.
The intense teaser also discusses power struggles, politics, and crimes against women in India. Kani Kusruti, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak Kapur, and Naseeruddin Shah also play significant parts in the movie. View the Assi trailer here:
In the past, Pannu shared Assi posters and wrote, "Taapsee Pannu as Raavi." No more ignoring the facts. It's time to confront it. The stark phrase "Eighty. Per Day" appears on the posters. Every Day," establishing the tone for a narrative based on harsh realities.
The film's first look poster had previously been released by the makers with the caption, "Assi. Uss raat woh ghar nahi pahunchi" [That night, she didn't reach home]." The poster, which was created by Benaras Mediaworks and presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, featured Pannu dressed as a lawyer and had black ink smeared on her face.
What the creators say about Assi
Anubhav Sinha commented, "My film has to hit the core of the story," after watching the trailer. It felt like a loud thud right where it should have with ASSI. I was inspired to make this movie by that impact. The narrative is based on real-life events that we frequently choose to overlook. Taapsee is a natural at telling stories like this; just take her there, and she gives it her all. And we know we're hitting the mark with Bhushan Kumar supporting a movie like ASSI."
"I felt it was time to bring these stories together and put them in front of people to remind ourselves that what we read as everyday crime news should never be normalized," Taapsee said when discussing the significance of the movie for her. These occurrences are concerning, occurring all around us, and appearing to be getting worse. Sometimes, it's not only about the crime; it's also about how little we can do to prevent it. As a performer, I found this to be extremely moving when we turned it into a two-hour story because it makes you face a reality that we frequently ignore."
On February 20, Assi is scheduled to be released in theaters.
